About the company’s mission video

The mission of Marie-Christine Giordano Dance (MCGD) is to use the medium of dance, which we see as an expressive, healing, and unifying art form, to convey messages of life affirmation, beauty, equality and community that go well beyond language and cultural differences. We explore the complex landscape of the human heart through performance, teaching, outreach, and other programs.

In 2002, the city of Fribourg, Switzerland, commissioned the first MCGD full-evening creation, Eros et les autres, which premiered November 7, 2002, at l’Espace Moncor. Co-producers Tribeca Performing Arts Center and Swisspeaks Festival commissioned another work, Nurtured or Neutered? that was performed November 3–5, 2005. Since then, MCGD has created eight full-evening works and two additional solo pieces, as well as three works for Joffrey Ballet School summer intensives. MCGD has appeared in New York City venues including BAM Fisher, St. Mark’s Church, the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Frederick P. Rose Hall (home to Jazz at Lincoln Center), the Swiss Institute, BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, White Wave's Annual DUMBO Dance Festival, Chez Bushwick, Triskelion Arts’ performance space in Brooklyn, and venues in Europe.

Giordano’s last full-evening new project, performed at BAM Fisher June 2017, included a larger group of dancers, a change of pace that represents a move from more intimate work to a larger ensemble, allowing a group of marked diversity to present Giordano's inclusive and celebratory vision of dance.
